Many people argue that hard work is the main factor of success and do not consider the importance of luck. Based on my observation in my work place and my surroundings for several years, I absolutely disagree with this statement. In my opinion, besides hard work, luck also plays a big role in people success.

To achieve your dream goal needs extra work is undeniable, but sometimes luck also might become another key factor in achieving your desired goal. For example, when we talk about the promotion. I often see that there are many hard work employees in my office feasible to be promoted to higher position, but not all of these employees get it soon. In fact, the promotion is usually granted to an employee who is known by and has closer relationship with the top management besides his hard working. In this case, we can see that opportunity has a bigger impact on an employee’s career.

When we discuss employment problem, we also often find irony. Sometimes there is no positive correlation between studying hard and getting a job fast. In reality, there are many diligent university graduates still unemployed even they have sent many job applications to many companies. On the other hand, a regular student could get job soon and occupy a good position in his work place because he is a son or family of the company’s owner.

A politician also often gets many advantages from luck. Because of his suffering from incumbent government pressures, a politician often gets the opportunity to get more sympathy from the people, become more popular, and get more voters in the election.

In conclusion, it is obvious then from the examples above that in achieving success people not only need hard work but also luck.
